Jay was the Guest of Honor at the Fund Raising Event for Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program in Park City, UT. This Program supports the traditional Elders who live in the cultural and spiritual traditions of The Dine' People. Most live in remote portions of the Dine's (Navajo) reservation. Many live in traditional hogans, and some raise sheep as a means of maintaining themselves. The Program provides food, simple medicines, clothing, fabric and yarns to help these Elders live on the Land in their traditional lifestyle. The A-A-N-E Program invited Jay as Guest of Honor to their fund raising event because Jay is a major supporter of the program. Jay also did TV and Radio appearances including KTMP Radio Station in Herber City, Utah, to promote this wonderful event. The event auctioned a basket of Jay goodies including t-shirts; coffee mugs; tote bag; signed headshots; and a copy of the Unbowed DVD; which raised approximately $2,300. This entire event was a record breaking success and raised over $500,000 which was double the norm. Lisa Wishnick, April Wilsey, along with fellow staff members, & volunteers; as well as the native elders from the program were very excited and happy with Jay's participation and the buzz that was created during Jay's visit carried throughout the entire weekend long after he left. ________________________________________________

Jay was the guest speaker at the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). This district provides a mandatory course to credentialed teachers which emphasizes on multi-cultural education and issues of diversity for their students. The district invited Jay to speak about his knowledge and experiences not only as an outstanding actor and story teller, but as a man of American Indian and Latin descent. This act of community service by Jay has made an impact on the teachers who are so influential in the lives of our children and the aim is to affect how the teachers approach their diverse student population and how the students themselves will benefit from what their teachers pass on to them. Jay spoke of his experiences as a multi-ethnic person and as a man who uses each character he portrays (Waka Mani, Kayitah, Swimmer, and Matthew Osceola to name a few) as opportunities to learn and grow. Numerous questions were asked and Jay skillfully shared an abundance of cultural and historical information to the class of teachers. It was an overall success and the instructor and teachers were very impressed by his presentation and hope this will not be the last time LAUSD benefits from the graciousness of Jay Tavare. ________________________________________________

Jay was invited to be part of the opening night ceremony at the Berlin Film Festival in Germany where “Cold Mountain” was chosen as the opening night film. He was received very well and was called on stage by Anthony Minghella to join several other stars that were there. Jay returned 2 days later to “walk the red carpet” once again with Ron Howard and Cate Blanchett for The film “The Missing” which was in competition and had many fans calling his name as he arrived. Jay has a large following in several of the European Countries, specifically Berlin where “Adaptation” was a multiple winner in last years festival.

Tavare was a guest on the Mike Bullard Show in Toronto where he was the opening guest for the night. It was a funny interaction between the two and both had a great time.

Jay has been asked to be a member and spokesperson for the Preservation of Endangered Indigenous Languages Board. This panel is being put together by one of the producers of “The Missing” (Daniel Ostroff). This project will be working to preserve the endangered Indigenous Languages of the American Indian. The panel also includes the Governor of New Mexico and several PHD's from New Mexico University and the Ex-Governor of Pueblo, New Mexico. Jay’s involvement is due to the fact that he has learned and spoken Cherokee, Apache, Lakota and Navajo in his films and has done so flawlessly.

Tavare was asked to participate in Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity, the project that builds 6 homes in 6 weeks for underprivileged families. He worked on these homes in honor of our fallen Heroes, our Firefighters, Soldiers and Police officers.

Jay is currently getting ready for 2 upcoming films and is developing a screenplay of his own based on a historic event.
